Pre-Cast Story:

Having undertaken a degree in Human Geography, the concept of place making, the built environment and how people use and engage with the world around them was always a passion on mine. This transitioned naturally into a career in construction after taking on a summer placement position as a Quantity Surveyor in a large consultancy in 2011. I returned to them when I graduated and completed an RICS accredited MSc conversion degree in quantity surveying before moving to Cast in January 2016.

Your Career Journey at Cast:

Joining Cast as a Graduate Surveyor in 2016 represented an incredible opportunity to be part of a great team of focussed professionals wanting to break the mould in construction consultancy. This was clear in the company’s ethos and the passion of the founding directors from the outset, and it has been great to see both my own and Cast’s development since the company’s inception. Cast’s development from a ‘Market Disrupter’ to Household Name in residential consultancy and MMC has been particularly rewarding to be a part of. Since joining Cast, I have gained invaluable experience in the residential sector which has enabled me to become a qualified Chartered Surveyor and to progress my career, most recently being promoted to Associate Director.

Current Role:

My current role as an Associate Director at Cast is incredibly rewarding and allows me to work with a wide range of construction professionals both within and outside of Cast. This includes playing my internal role as a team leader working with a team of talented surveyors and project managers, as well as being a lead consultant across exciting client portfolios and engaging projects. In particular I have had the opportunity to develop strong working relationships with two industry leading clients delivering in the urban regeneration and student accommodation sectors.

What are your ambitions:

Based on my core passions around place making and the environment, one area of construction that particularly motivates me is sustainability and improving the environment through construction. This aligns closely to the ethos of Cast to think differently around delivery of buildings and adopting an MMC approach to reduce waste and provide high quality buildings. The clients that I have been able to work with also recognise sustainable construction as a core principle in their developments, either through focusing on MMC and embodied Carbon or reducing operational Carbon emissions through PassivHaus. Being a part of a forward-thinking consultancy and working with proactive clients around this has been incredibly motivating and it is an ambition to be recognised as market leaders in this.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining Cast?

Working at Cast has given me the support and flexibility to grow into a role that is engaging and rewarding. As a relatively small business, working at Cast has given me the exposure and opportunity to work closely with market leaders, on exciting projects, with engaged proactive clients. This combination of exposure and mentorship has given me the confidence to develop into the Associate Director role and be part of a company driving positive change in the industry. As a professional, sociable, supportive and personable company, Cast offers a great environment to develop your career and work alongside great team of people.
