Pre-Cast Story:
Following completion of an undergraduate degree in Politics, I embarked on a career as a Project Manager for a global shipping line moving a variety of goods around the world from car parts to components for nuclear power plants. The experience taught me a huge amount about cost and programme management, albeit as an often-brief contributor to a much larger outcome in a manufacturing supply chain or built environment project. I found myself wanting to play a bigger role in these interesting projects and rather than just facilitating a delivery, I wanted the opportunity to contribute more, to see projects completed and in operation. I decided that a RICS accredited MSc conversion degree in Quantity Surveying would build upon my Logistics Manager skillset, whilst offering progression into a more fulfilling role in the Built Environment.
Why Did You Join Cast?:
Cast stood out as a company that not only wanted to provide an excellent service to clients but also a company that was striving to influence positive change in the industry. It quickly became apparent that there was a real focus within the business to influence and improve outcomes across the built environment and wider society. Whether it is promoting the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction, the positive outcomes from optimising Pre-Manufactured Value or giving back to the wider community through Cast Contribution days there was clearly more to Cast than your usual 9 to 5. After 3 years with the business, I can say not only were my initial impressions correct, the drive for positive change is continuingly growing and evolving each year I am here.
Current Role & Experience To Date:
My current role as a Senior Cost Consultant is varied and fulfilling providing the opportunity to work across multiple sectors with a wide range of talented clients, colleagues, and external built environment professionals. This includes providing consultancy services on innovative Purpose Built Student Accommodation developments that utilise MMC solutions with a sharp focus on maximising building performance and reducing environmental impact, as well as class leading Later Living projects that put resident wellbeing at the heart of everything they do. I am fortunate to work on schemes where there is a strong focus to deliver positive outcomes for the end user, while promoting wellbeing in the project workforce, and a drive to utilise sustainable construction practices. In addition to project delivery, my role as a team leader affords me the opportunity to work with a fantastic team within the business and my contributions towards service digitalisation are welcomed as part of developing best in class tools that help to improve our business insights.
What Are Your Ambitions?:
Being at Cast has allowed me to work on a truly interesting and inspirational portfolio of work across several sectors and I am certain this rewarding professional challenge will continue. In addition to direct project delivery, Cast has afforded me the opportunity to develop a better understanding of business and data analytics which is allowing us to continually improve our insights across each of our projects and approach data in a different way. This is a fantastic challenge that provides the opportunity to contribute to positive outcomes across a wider range of projects. Being a team leader also allows me further opportunities and challenges away from project delivery and I am sure I will continue to enjoy the role going forward.
